Yiling Xu, received the paper award with a $300 award check in the graduate student paper contest in 2017 CAPA (Chinese American Petroleum Association) Petroleum and Petrochemical Technical Symposium, which was held in Houston on November 3. The winning paper is: Xu, Y.L., Xu, Q.*, "Optimal Design of Pipeline System for Flare Minimization in Multiple Chemical Plants".
Honglin Qu, received the paper award with a $300 award check in the graduate student paper contest in 2017 CAPA (Chinese American Petroleum Association) Petroleum and Petrochemical Technical Symposium, which was held in Houston on November 3. Honglin Qu, has won 2017 AIChE Process Development Division Graduate Student Paper Award for his contribution in the paper, Qu, H. L., Wang, S. Deep discussions on both side achievements and mutual opportunities in process system engineering areas had been performed. The visiting team include Prof. Feng Qian, VP of ECUST; Prof. Wenli Du and Weiming Zhong, Dean and Vice Dean of College of Information Science and Engineering, and Dr. Minglei Yang, assistant professor of ECUST Automation Department.

Liwen has performed innovative research work on inverse modeling for simultaneous input and state recovery for dynamic process system, as well as process synthesis and simulation for chemical; process energy savings. He generated five papers and three book chapters during his Ph.D. study. Congratulations and best wishes to Liwen!!

Dr. Xu received the Anita Riddle Faculty Fellow. Dr. Anita Riddle is the procurement manager for ExxonMobil since February 2009. Previously she was sourcing manager, 2005-2009, process department head, 2003-2005, senior environmental advisor, 2001-2003, and crude oil optimization manager, 2000-2001. She holds two advanced degrees from Lamar University; a master in engineering management, 1993, and a Doctorate of Engineering, 1996. She holds a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from Cornell University. Dr. Anita Riddle’s long-term generous support to LU’s faculty and student scholarly activities are highly appreciated.

Other team members, Jian, Ha, and Yogesh, also visited the plant with Dr. Xu. Our research team were warmly welcomed by the plant.

Vihbor successfully completed his M.S. study at Lamar and graduated this summer. Right after his graduation, he got three job offers in the fields of bio-refinery, upstream oil and gas, and process engineering, respectively. Finally, he has joined Foster Wheeler, an international EPC company located in Houston, as a Process Engineer II, working in his interest area of simulation, equipment sizing, and refinery related design work. Vibhor produced two papers and one conference presentation during his M.S. study at Lamar University. Congratulations to Vibhor and best wishes to his new career development!

Xiongtao successfully completed his Ph.D. study at Lamar and graduated this summer. He has been hired by Bayer Technology Service located in Baytown Texas right after his graduation. His major job duty is still process simulation, which exactly fits in his research experience. Xiongtao generated six journal papers, coauthored another two journal papers, and produced/participated in 16 conference papers/presentations during his Ph.D. study at Lamar University. He also got the 2010 best paper award from AIChE Process Development Division. Congratulations to Xiongtao and his family and best wishes to their new lives!!

Chaowei successfully completed his Ph.D. study at Lamar University. He simultaneously got two job offers right after his graduation. He will work for M3 Technology, Inc. in Houston, TX in the area of process planning, scheduling, and optimization, which exactly fits in his research experience. Chaowei generated five papers, coauthored another four papers, and produced 14 conference papers/presentations during his Ph.D. study at Lamar. He also got two AIChE best paper awards and one NSF student travel award. Congratulations to Chaowei and enjoy your life!!

Chaowei has won 2010 AIChE Environmental Division Graduate Student Paper Award for his contribution in the paper, “Thermodynamic Analysis-based Design and Operation for Boil-off Gas Flare Minimization at LNG Receiving Terminals”, Industrial & Engineering Chemistry Research, 49(16), 7412-7420, 2010. This paper received the second place in the competition and high evaluations from the judging panel. A $300 check plus an award certificate will be granted to Chaowei during the award session of Lawrence K. Cecil Award Lecture on Monday, Nov. 8th at 2010 AIChE Meeting held in Salt Lake City. Congratulations to Chaowei!! Our group has won three best student paper awards from three AIChE divisions in 2010!

Dr. Xu attended the Hot Air Conference organized by Air and Waste Management Association in Houston, TX. He gave a keynote talk on “Flare Minimization for Chemical Process Industry”. About three hundred people from government, acadmia, and industry attdended the conference. Mayor of Houston, Annise Parker, also gave a talk in the conference.

Dr. Xu and Dr. Li presented our research work and discussed joint working opportunities. BASF high-level managers have visited our lab triple times in 2008, mainly because our lab has completed a very successful flare minimization project for BASF-TOTAL Olefin Plant during its recent startup. Our lab contribution to the plant was highly appreciated by BASF.
